Lt. Col. Henry C. Merwin  is one of the few soldiers with a dedicated monument on the Gettysburg Battlefield.  He was Killed in Action while leading his men in battle of the Wheatfield  on July 2nd.  The sword is in excellent plus condition as it should be seeing as it was presented to him on June 7th, less than a month before his death.  The sword retains most of it's gold wash and is just like ne in every way.  I'm sure it was displayed by the family in a very special place for years.
