This model 1860 Cav. sword is U.S inspected and dated 1864 on the blade.  The blade is in really good shape with no nicks or dings and the scabbard has a beautiful untouched patina. The grip leather and wire are all there.  On the guard where the name, unit and rack number are stamped J.D. Burk on the guard and A. 9 Cav. and 34 rack number on the pommel. There's the proper amount of wear and patina commensurate with a period stamping. The Buffalo Soldiers were formed up after the Civil War and consisted of the 9th & 10th. Cav. They were all Black units with the exception of the Officers and saw quit a bit of Indian Fighting out west.  A really neat Indian Wars sword carried by a soldier in the famous Buffalo Soldiers.
