The Coldstream Guards were formed in 1650 and still serve today. They are the longest still serving Regiment in the British Service. The 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards  arrived in New York in July of 1776 and served here throughout the Revolutionary War until their capture and internment at the  Battle of Yorktown  in 1781. This musket is one of those that was captured at Yorktown as it exhibits the distinctly American feature of a rear sight being cut into the barrel tang.  The  41 5/8 " barrel marks are very worn and hard to read and equally hard to photograph but none the less it is the correct marking .  I beleive it’s a good reconversion to it’s original flintlock configuration using all the correct old parts. Quite honestly it took me a bit of time trying to figure out whether it was just rebushed with the pan being repaired or not. The wood is in very nice shape and is held to the stock by wooden pegs rather than iron pins. The whole musket has a wonderful patina. The lock is marked Tower with the GR under the Crown and broad arrow.  A really great Rev. War musket that saw service in  both the British and American Army.
