Without a signed lock I really can't tell whether Phinehas Sawyer or Thomas Earle made this beautiful fowler. Both makers are very similar in their style. Please refer to pg.60-65 in "Flintlock Fowlers " by Tom Grinsdale . Both men used the double struts on the  trigger guard bow like on this piece.. The carved Tree pattern behind the barrel tang is something that both men used.  The trigger guard and the raised carving around it are identical to the Phinehas Sawyer Fowler on pg.60 as is the style and engraving on the butt tang.  Yet the Thomas Earle fowler on pg.64 has the identical trigger guard and carving . It is known that Thomas Earle did make a fowler for George Washington. The octagon to round barrel is 49" long with a top rib running to the front sight. The rear sight in missing so this gun also was designed for buck & ball. The cherry stock has all it's original wood without any repairs. I believe the gun maybe a good reconversion. The lock has the classic trade engraved bow and quiver behind the cock and functions properly on both half and full cock. The forestock exhibits a raised double carved border on either side of the ramrod channel.   As you can see from the pictures this is a very attractive Rev.War fowler.
