This is a really great signed and dated Rev.War musket- fowler that’s been converted to percussion utilizing it’s original cock. The barrel is 3 stages from octagon to round and is 47" long with a provision for a bayonet and I beleive of French Mfg. having been left over from the French & Indian War. The butt plate is also of early French Mfg.. The furniture is American as is the lock which is dated and signed "1777 J.W". The gun exhibits a very high quality of craftmanship and has an early Pennsylvania Fowler look to it.  There’s double line incised carving running the full length of the barrel both top and bottom. Also, the barrel is held to the stock by a screw entering from underneath which is a early feature. There was minor wood repair to the forestock which is undetectable now. The gun is all original except for the ramrod which is a replacement. I don’t know for sure who made this gun but there was a "Jacob Welshantz"who set up shop in 1777 in York.Pa . This musket-fowler certainly exhibits the hand of a quality maker such as "Jacob Welshantz.
