This carbine has been in my personal collection for years and is one of the best Indian guns I’ve ever owned.  It very well may be a Little Big Horn as the gun was mfg.in 1876. The serial number is 1xx42 and I can’t make out the other two numbers.Seeing as the serial numbers started at 23xxx in 1877 this carbine certainly is old enough to have been there. On page 36 in Custer Battle Guns by John S. du Mont there’s a ’66 Winchester with the identical tack pattern which is from the Winchester Arms Co. collection. Today we believe that the these patterns signify different Warrior Society’s many of which participated in the Little Big Horn Battle.  The action still works well and still can cycle’s a cartridge .The stock is weathered and the tacks have been there forever. The sling ring and dust cover have purposely been removed as they would rattle and give the Indian away. The buttplate was also removed as the Indians would use it for scrapping hides. The whole carbine has one of the best untouched patina’s you’ll every find. A really top notch Indian carbine.
