This is one of the U.S govt. Civil War pistols that was sent to Springfield Armory to be refurbished after the War.  The all were taken apart and polished to remove all the old finish. They were reassembled with no thought to matching the serial numbers and stamped U.S on the trigger guard.  None of these guns will have a cylinder scene if they are correct.  They were then finished and sent to the troops on the Western Frontier.  These were the first Indian War pistols and were in use from the mid 1860’s to the mid 1870’s. This is one of the nicest condition one of these I’ve ever encountered with quit a bit of it’s arsenal blue finish. The grips are also in great shape for one of these . One of the better Indian War Colts for sale today.
