Mex.Amer.War Bowie knife
Mex.Amer.War Bowie knife

This great Bowie saw action in two wars a hundred years apart. It was made by James Westa- 8 Lord Street- Sheffield and is so marked on it's ricasso. The obverse side exhibits his trade mark D.C.L. It was mfg.'d in the 1840's for the Mexican American War. The pommel exhibit's the  classic Mexican Eagle and Snake. The 9 3/4" blade is still in excellent condition and is razor sharp. The 5" handle consists of two pinned horn slabs. These knife's were made as much for dress as fighting. I've included in my photo's a couple pictures of what this knife's original configuration would have looked like before it's alteration for WWII.  As you can see in the knife's original configuration, the main weakness in a knife fight would have been it's small scalloped crossguard. This was addressed with the addition of a 4 " riveted steel guard which not only protects the hand but adds a good heft to the knife. This work was done by a professional . A really wonderful fighting knife !

Price: $2,950.00
