Rev. War Musket

This musket is a classic American assembled gun using parts from French & Indian War  acquired firearms . The stock is American maple and exhibits a double line incised border running the full length of the barrel. This double line border is found on many early Pennsylvania rifles which may be a clue to it's State of origin. The brass furniture is from a early British Long Land pattern Brown Bess as is the lock. The lock is the early banana shape with the crown over GR and broad arrow under the pan with Tower and 1743 behind the cock.  The ramrod pipes are without flares which is correct for a wooden ramrod which is present. The barrel is 44 1/2" and may be from a French musket . It appears to have been trimmed about a inch but not sure. The lock functions properly on both half and full cock.  When the War broke out the Colony's had very few arms with which to fight.   This musket would have been used from early on in the War. A really attractive musket that was here for the birth of our Nation.
