Mdl.1842 U.S Percussion Musket
Mdl.1842 U.S Percussion Musket

These mdl. 1842 muskets were the first regulation model made at the national armories incorporating the percussion system.  This one was mfg.'d at Harpers Ferry in 1847 which makes it a Mexican-American War musket.  These smoothbore muskets were also used in the early years of the Civil War. Actually, some of the units preferred them to the later rifled muskets as they could load these with buck and ball. This musket is in very good condition with a nice even patina. The action functions properly and the bore on the .69 cal. 42" barrel has a nice shine to it. The two cartouche's are faint but visible. The stock is in great condition without any repairs or missing wood. Many of these smoothbore Harpers Ferry muskets were used very effectively by the Southern troops.
