Cased 1851 Colt Navy
Cased 1851 Colt Navy

‚ÄčA really outstanding example of a 1851 Colt 'London' Navy. I don't think I've ever seen a better cylinder as it retains all of it's scene and 99% of it's factory blue finish. The barrel retains about 90% with some flacking towards the muzzle from dryness not wear.  The trigger guard exhibits about 98% and the backstrap about 60%. The frame retains 80-90% vivid case colors with the loading lever retaining about 60-70%. This is a second model and has all matching serial numbers (33903) with the exception of the wedge which is a correct factory replacement part #8 . Also, the wedge has been inserted upside down and the wedge screw head cut in half. This was obviously done on purpose but the meaning of which I don't know. According to the serial number this pistol was manufactured in 1855 and could well have belonged to an officer in the CrimeanWar. Also, it may have ended up back here in the States as when Colt closed up shop in 1857 the remaining unsold  inventory was sent here to the U.S. The case is in super condition and still retains it's original loading instruction label on the lid. All the accessary are still present with the exception of the original key. The one in the case is just for looks and doesn't open the lock mechanism. Also, the ivory knob on the covered lid for the bullet compartment has been replaced with a brass one. This is a really top of the line outfit and would fit nicely in any advanced Colt collection. The British factory blue finish is without a doubt the most attractive of all the Colt finish's.
