This attractive pistol is the product of  William Grice and  has his intials on the barrel and his signature on the lock. The .65 cal  8 1/2 " barrel has a Birmingham proof mark along  with a Government Viewers (Inspector's) Stamp, Crown over 6 . This was only done on guns that were to be issued to the government . I've never seen this stamping on a private arm. This pistol may heve been designated for special service to the King or Queen. Overall , the pistol has a wonderful smooth patina. The lock mechanism works fine on both half and full cock. Still retains it's original ramrod. William Grice worked in Birmingham from 1766-1781.
