This early 1873 Springfield carbine is serial # 36565 which is in the â€‹Prime Custer Serial Range. â€‹It's all early 1873 with no upgrades. The carbine may have went over the hill with it's original owner as there was an attempt to remove the U.S Springfield and Eagle from the lock. The lock is the correct 3 click tumbler for this serial range. The bore is pretty good with some nice rifling. The correct long wrist stock has had some linseed oil applied at one time which looks fine and has preserved the wood. The number 49 (rack number) has been stamped in three places, between the back of the trigger guard and the butt plate, the top of the comb, and the top of the wrist. These early unaltered '73 carbine's are getting very hard to find these days and this is a really nice one.

Serial #36451 was tested and had the distinction of matching eight 45-55 cartridge cases from the Reno-Benteen defense area.
