A very eye appealing pistol. Like most French pistols of the 18th century the workmanship is superb. The 10" oct/rd. barrel is divided by a wedding band and is of .60 cal. The butt cap has a grotesque mask . Where as the side plate exhibits a forward facing serpent. The stock carvings are of a quality nature and appears to be all origin wood. The fore end cap is made of horn.  The lock obviously was converted in it's period of use from flintlock to percussion and works fine. Also, though the makers name is long gone you can still make out parts of the Indian Bow design engraved behind the cock.. There's an interesting article in the Oct.2015 Man at Arms about these pistols being made for the fur trade in New France(Canada) 1740-1750.  A pistol that would fit nicely into any Rev. War or Colonial Collection.
