A wonderful looking 2nd mdl. Brown Bess that saw service on both sides during the American Revolution.  The musket is one of the Liege imports that Britain contracted for in 1777 as they couldn't keep up with the demand. This is evidenced by the shaded engraved Tower and shorter fatter GR Crown on the lock.  The musket obviously was captured and Americanized by the shaving of the buttstock comb to fascilitate aiming.  Also a rear sight was cut into the tang of the 42" barrel.  The cock is an American replacement as well as the ramrod.  The musket saw much use as the frizzen has been resoled and the cock keeps slipping off full cock. Still it's in remarkably good condition.  The wood on the stock appears to be all original with no cracks and exhibits a early large swell by the tail pipe. A very attractive Rev.War musket.
