This pistol is not only good looking but also extremely rare. I know of a few 17th Dragoon muskets but to my knowledge this is the only 17th Dragoon  identified pistol known. The pistol is in very fine shape with clear and crisp markings and all original wood. The action works just fine. The lock has the Crown over GR with a broad arrow and is signed Vernon 1760. The top of the 9" .65 cal. barrel exhibits  2 early British proofs with a clear 17 DRAG  for 17th Dragoons.  The 17th Dragoons arrived in Boston in 1775 . They participated in the Battle of Bunker Hill  and The Siege of Boston. From there they departed  for New York City and fought in the Battle of Long Island. They wintered in â€‹Philadelphia.. In the spring of 1778 they encountered French Forces lead by Lafayette for the first time. That summer they were called upon to defend Philadelphia from American forces. They spent the summer of 1779  in upstate New York and from there were transferred to the Carolina's. They landed in Charleston and participated in the Siege. They eventually tasted defeat at the hands of Generals Greene and Morgan during the Battle of Cowpens. The 17th found themselves having to surrender at Glouchester as Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown in 1781. They were led by Col.Tarleton and were one of the main subjects in Mel Gibson's movie " The Patriot ".   A chance to own one of the rarest Revolutionary War pistols on the market today.

This historic pistol was part of the famous Charles A. Lamb (Olin Matheson Chemical Corp.)  Collection and will come with much correspondence from the 1950's  including Colonial Williamsburg, The New York Historical Society and noted British author and dealer W. Keith Neal .
