The state of Virginia contracted with Col. James Swan of Boston for 8000 musket. These muskets are fairly rare and to find one that’s identified to a unit and the county is a nice acquisition. They are similar to the British Brown Bess and all the furniture is brass. I took two seperate pictures ot the barrel marks the first is 17 Va. Regt. and the second is Cumberland. The musket itself is in very good untouched condition with a great crusty patina. These flintlock County owned muskets were used by the Confederate soldiers in the first 2 years of the Civil War. A nice secondary Martial Arm.
