Rev. War British Officer's Fusil
Rev. War British Officer's Fusil

This is a really spectacular Rev. War Officer's fusil.  It was a custom ordered gun with the latest improvements which includes a hooked breech and wedges rather than barrel pins. All the furniture is Silver including the ramrod pipes. The silver chiseled sideplate and wrist escutcheon are of military motif's . As the sideplate has a decidedly sea service theme, including a winged sea serpent , I would assume this was the property of a Naval Officer. The Galton signed lock functions properly and has the early feature of a unbridled pan. The wood carving around the barrel tang is really superb.  The oct/rd. .70 cal. barrel is 41 " with a silver spider base front sight.  Samuel Galton started as a gunmaker in 1774 in Birmingham and this is a very fine example of his work. This beautiful piece is really a work of art which still retains it's original ramrod.
