Joseph Perkin -Phila. 'Buck and Ball'

This is a massive Buck & Ball with a 51" barrel signed Joseph Perkin-Phila. The lock is also signed Perkin and functions properly. The barrel exhibits a very impressive and unique rear sight coupled with a tear drop front sight.  Joseph Perkin was one of the premier gunmakers of his day. He first appeared in 1776 working at the Rappahanocccck Forge ,Va.  After that he went onto the Continental Armory in Philadelphia where he was Superintendant from 1780-1782.  In 1800 he arrived at Harpers Ferry where was made Superintendent. This wonderful musket  also has some personal history . It was the property of Thomas Allen and has his name and 1797 engraved on the wrist escutcheon.  In the War of 1812 he served in the 5th Regt. (Fenton's ) Pa.Vol.  He participated in two of the bloodiest battles of the War 'Chippewa & Lundy Lane'.  A very historic piece.
