This is a mdl.1861 Springfield rifle dated 1862. It was professionally modified to carbine size and ended up in Indian hands. The original rear sight was removed and a western style buckhorn sight was added . The cracked wrist is held together with wood screws and originally was covered with hide. You can see in the pictures the evidence of where the hide once was as the area has blackened from the acid in the hide.  The period repair is solid and secure with no play at all. The butt stock had multiple brass tacks at one time with three remaining. A true Indian captured  rifle that's early enough to be a Custer gun.
